Holidays 08-2010 Adriatic Coast Italy

Our Summer Holidays 2010 at the Adriatic Sea in Italy! It seems ages ago already being back to work for only a week now!!
A beautiful region rich of it's history going back to Medieval times. Small villages on each and every hill top and often build between the years 1400 and 1500.
Of course we also enjoyed all types of the typical Italian food and drinks. Delicious local wines, Truffle from the 'Ascoli' region and of course the ice creams, pizzas, coffee and bread.

A 1300km drive to get there (and to get back :(
15 hours in the car! But well worth it! We quickly forgot about the journey when the Adriatic Sea was in sight, especially when we made our first dive into it (many dives followed during our stay !!).

We've been to the beach nearly every single day. The boys had been looking forward to that impatiently.

We've spent an unforgettable time enjoying Italy and the Italians! The boys are reminding us every day that we should not forget to return as soon as possible.....
For sure we will!
Viva Italia!

Back to the (cold & white) woods. 01-2009

A short but refreshing walk in the woods nearby.
Temperature close to -10°C, a clear sunny sky and a white carpet of snow.
Everything you need for a really energizing activity!
The snow already lasts for about 10 days now due to the freezing temperatures since the beginning of this year!

Going out for dinner......, 03-2008

In march we went for a nice little dinner by...... helicopter!!
After a little drive by car we got into the helicopter at a small airport nearby.
Personnaly, it was one big sensation (my first helicopter fly) .
After having flown over a couple of well known places and/or buildings and half an hour later the helicopter put us safely back on the ground directly at the parking of that evenings restaurant.

Unfortunately our return home was planned by car so our beautifull yellow helicopter returned immediately to its' base!

This little journey through the air was really unexpected and unforgettable!!
By the way......, dinner was great as well!

A Walk in the Woods..... 02-2008

Today I had a very nice walk in the woods with both of the boys! Only a little five minutes drive from home so a last minute decision took us here late afternoon! We know the place very well as we go there for a walk several times each month. Regardless the wheather!!

A clear blue sky, no wind but rather cold and the sun shining very low through the trees! The youngest did the entire walk (Ok, I carried him for the last 100 meters....;-) on his own feet holding my hand from time to time!

As usual, They picked up a maximum of leaves, branches, etc..., from the ground for their personal collections at home!! Dads' pockets better be empty in order for him to transport it all!!

A short stop for the little legs on an old fallen tree. The ideal moment for a laugh, a drink and a beautifull little photo.
As spring is already knocking on our doors, we'll probably be back here pretty soon.

Public Transports 10-2007

Knowing that my oldest son has always been very interested in things like trains, busses and boats, he really did enjoy this little day trip we made together.

In fact we left my parents home by car early in the morning to the train station nearby. Around 8.30am we took the train for a 1 hour journey to the city of Den Helder. We continued 15 minutes by bus from Den Helder train station to the Ferry Terminal.

We checked in on the Ferry and enjoyed the short (25 min.) trip across the North Sea to Texel Island. We left the ferry and got back on a bus which took us to "Ecomare" Seal Centre near to the village of De Koog.

The Ecomare Seal Centre takes care of any ill, hurt and/or abandoned seals that may be found in the surrounding sea waters. Above all, the people at Ecomare do a great job saving and preserving the seal population.

The Centre also offers a very interesting and interactive educational part for all ages !! (http://www.ecomare.nl/) In any case, my son and I did have an unforgettable afternoon !!

After having said goodbye to all those lovely seals we went back on the bus to get to the Texel Ferry Terminal.

From there we got back on the Ferry to Den Helder, back on the bus to Den Helder Train Station and back on the train for a little hour.

Once we were back in the car for the final little drive home my son fell asleep even before I started driving.

As I said earlier, this was an unforgettable day we had. Even though it was a fresh and windy day, the sun has been present all day long !! We can't wait to back there........!
